Full time score thanks to Jamie Allen

Harry as always looks up to William on the left

It was great to see William Edjenguélé back at the CBS Arena as CCFPA’s matchday guest for for Tuesday night’s clash with Blackburn Rovers. We are very grateful, due to the doubts about staging the game at the CBS, that the imposing French central defender was able to step into the breach late in the day and agreed to pick up the duties of our ‘special’. William currently plays for Bedworth United for whom he signed in the close season after a season at Barwell. Now son-in-law to fellow CCFPA member and club legend Steve Ogrizovic ‘the Edje’ played forty Sky Blue games netting once during the 2012-13 season.

William was born in Paris in 1987 just a week before Sky Blues’ FA Cup Wembley victory. He started his career at French side Le Mans where he stopped more than 24 hours! In fact his three year spell resulted in 58 games and one goal. In 2008 he moved to Switzerland to join Neuchatel Xamax. In his two years there he appeared 29 times scoring once. In 2010 William got his boots ready for a trip to Greece and Panetolikós FC playing 46 games scoring three times.

‘Harry’ & ‘The Edje’

Mark Robins then signed him for Coventry City during his first spell as the Sky Blues boss. On 20 August 2013, William had his contract at Ricoh terminated by mutual consent. He had made a big impression in his one season with the club after joining on a free transfer from the Greek side. But he was one of several players made available for transfer in the summer as the club battled financial problems.

Since leaving Coventry in 2013 William has appeared for nine clubs, amongst them Bury, Dundee United, Falkirk and our neighbours Nuneaton.

So on Tuesday evening (1st November) William saw Sky Blues Jamie Allen smart strike register the only goal of the game as City beat the team who were second place in the Championship and could have gone top with a win!

William in the Sky Blue

William was taken on a pre-match tour round the CBS lounges with CCFPA’s official matchday team of  Sarah and Richard Morris. William met up with CCFC’s club host and former Sky Blues defender ‘Harry Roberts (another CCFPA member) for some Q&As. ‘The Edje’ had some interesting things to say about his Sky Blues days and the club’s current league situation.

You can see one of these Q&As on CCFPA’s Facebook page. Just click on the Facebook button to the right of this post!

After the match he was shown down to the G Casino by CCFPA matchday helper Steve Dorrington while Sarah & Richard went to catch up with an old friend (watch this space…… for some important news of a new CCFPA member)!

CCFPA vice chairman Billy Bell greeted William on stage in Lady Gs where the pair entertained the happy audience after the night’s positive result which lifted the Sky Blues out of the relegation zone.

It was great to see William especially after a victory on the pitch. We hope it won’t be long before he’ll visit us again.

Thanks to CCFPA’s Richard Morris for the photos
