Sunday’s Charity Friendly: More Former Players Join the Fun

The Team Sheets for the Grand Charity Match between the Coventry City Legends and the Midlands All Stars are being drawn up. We are keeping the names of the Sky Blues opponents under wraps for a little longer but they will be drawn from the veterans of the four Midland rivals Leicester City, Aston Villa, Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Bromwich Albion and captained by Wolves star of the 1970s and 80s, Mel Eaves. Thanks to the Former Player Associations of these clubs for helping us with the selection.

Suffo, P (Patrick)Gavin StrachanMost of the CCFC Legends Squad have already been announced (see earlier news items) but we can report another two recruits who will definitely be pulling on the sky blue for the game and we have high hopes for other former players including Garry Thompson (below left).

Association members Patrick Suffo (above) and Gavin Strachan (right) have signed up for the eagerly awaited fixture at the Ricoh on Sunday (k.o. 2pm). Pat, who still lives in the Coventry area,  played for CCFC between 2003-05 and Gavin was at Highfield Road before that, from 1997-2003. His dad Gordon was also hoping to make an appearance but, in the event, unfortunately was unable to sort out other commitments which clashed with the game.

Garry Thompson (1981)Tickets (£5 adults; £3 child/concession – cash sale only please) are selling very well and there were queues at the Ricoh ticket office (inside the main atrium) yesterday we hear. We advise as many as possible to come to the Ricoh to buy their tickets today (Friday- when the ticket office will be open late (1pm-7pm)) or tomorrow (open from 9am to 6pm). On Sunday, the day of the game, the ticket office is only open from 10am-12.30 so please arrive early to avoid queuing as we expect a bumper crowd.

Though we have limited resources we have made arrangements to open a very small number of cash turnstiles on the day for latecomers – but if you leave it late you may miss the build up to the fun and games and the actual kick-off by a ‘mystery’ guest.  So please be there early and, if buying a ticket we need the exact change please!

Look out for more information on this site as Sunday approaches.
