John Sillett

John in the Sky Blue 1963

This Association’s committee Chairman and founding member Jim Brown, being also Coventry City FC’s official club historian is the right man to produce a definitive tribute to CCFC’s iconic manager (and former player) John Sillett.

The tribute, which can also be seen published in his own long-standing. roughly weekly, blogpost (see below) is a more than 2,400 word appreciation of the man, footballer, coach and ‘gaffer’ who died very recently aged 85. It includes consideration of John’s playing history both before and after his Sky Blues playing days in Jimmy Hill‘s teams of the sixties. Jim also looks at Snoz’s contribution to the club’s success as coach, Scout, manager and later Life President as well as his other interets outside football.

John Sillett- Sky Blue ‘gaffer’

The Gone But Not Forgotten pages provide appreciations and obituaries of around eighty former Coventry City players, coaches and managers (nearly all of whom were CCFPA membera)who have sadly passed away since the Association was founded in 1967.

The tribute has been added to the ‘Gone But Not Forgotten’ pages on this website under the ‘Players’ tab above. As indicated earlier the tribute also appears in his latest roughly weekly blogpost, ‘Jim Brown’s Journal‘, the latest just published online.  The posts are a mine of information about the club’s recent and long distant past.

Jim’s latest offering can also be read by clicking the link below.
