Tributes have been flooding in from the footballing world and especially Sky Blues fans for former CCFC defender and F.A.Cup winning ‘gaffer’ John Sillett. We have repeated below just some of the tweeted condolences we are aware of from former Sky Blues players (all of them CCFPA members).

First, however, a heartflet tribute from John’s son Neil which says it all:-

Personal tributes from two key members of the ‘Boys of 87’ will be broadcast tonight on ITV Central News (6pm) tonight – listen to interviews with defender Trevor Peake and (now CCFPA committee member) Dave Bennett.

Finally, thanks to CCFPA’s Dean Nelson you can watch a clip of John Sillett (in his own words) showing just why he was such a great team manager, taken from BBC coverage of the Sky Blues 1-0 win against Liverpool at Highfield Road in May 1987 a few games before we won the F.A.Cup at Wembley. The clip shows Nick Pickering‘s goal, matchday highlights, interviews and dressing room scenes. Also in the clip are two other well loved Sky Blues who we have also sadly lost in recent times, Sill’s ‘partner in crime’ as both player and manager George Curtis who poignantly passed away so recently himself and Cyrille Regis, another club legend who is deeply missed.
