Paul Bastock welcomed by CCFPA’s Jim Brown

CCFC youth player (1986-88) and Honorary CCFPA member Paul Bastock is still ready to play competitive football at the age of 50 as he again recently appeared on the bench as substitute goalkeeper for current club Kings Lynn Town.  Currently 21st in the Vanarama National League Lynn picked up a deserved point against second placed Hartlepool United last Tuesday evening (16th March 2021) at The Walks with the game ending 2-2.

Though he hasn’t been called on to play this season, the King’s Lynn Assistant Manager is continuing to push further his all-time record for the most competitive appearances in world football, primarily across the English lower leagues. When he played for Lynn against the University of East Anglia in a cup game inn November 2018 he clocked up a new milestone of 1280 competitive games. Sadly, Paul conceded a solitary goal as the Linnets lost 1-0 at the University. Paul joined us at CCFPA’s Golf Day 2018 that June (right)

Paul Bastock has a Q&A with CCFPA’s Billy Bell

Paul is an F.A. Youth Cup winner with the Sky Blues in 1987 (he is centre of the back row in the team photo above) and since leaving CCFC has played for a multitude of teams.

Although he announced his playing retirement at the end of 2017/18 when playing with Wisbech Town he has since played for Kettering Town, Grantham Town and now Kings’ Lynn where he has been Assistant Manager since 1st November 2018. Though very much now an emergency ‘keeper and perhaps hoping he doesn’t need to play too many future games for the Linnets who knows maybe a career total of 1300 appearances is not beyond him!

Incidentally, Lynn currently have on loan on their books another former Sky Blue, forward Simeon Jackson who scored 3 goals in 30 appearances for us in 2014-15!
