Peter in City’s away strip at Derby 21-08-1974

As we promised we are now able to pass on details of the funeral arrangements kindly sent to us by his family for former Sky Blue full back Peter Hindley who peacefully passed away on the 1st February aged 76 after suffering with dementia in recent years.

Worksop born began his professional career with Nottingham Forest and spent 13 seasons at the City ground (1961-74) before joining the Sky Blues February 1974 for £35k. A minutes silence for Peter was held before last night’s match at St Andrews between the Sky Blues and Forest!

By the time he left Highfield Road for Peterborough United, the last professional club for whom he played, he had clocked up 33 appearances without scoring for CCFC.  On hanging up his boots in 1979 he owned and raced greyhounds locally.

Peter’s Funeral has been booked at 4pm on Friday 19th February at

Peterborough Crematorium (Mowbray Road, Peterborough PE6 7JE      T: 01733 262639).

We are sad that the current health emergency precludes CCFPA being represented at his funeral as will be the case for many mourners from the footballing world who would have liked to pay their respects. However, the Association has sent its condolences to Peter’s family and friends at their loss! May he Rest in Peace!

In due course a full appreciation of Peter’s footballing life penned by CCFPA chairman (and CCFC Official Club Historian) Jim Brown will appear on this site.
