Members News: Garry Thompson Back In Cov For Q&A At Lloyd’s Place Next Month

CCFPA are pleased to pass on advance notice of an upcoming Sky Blue themed social occasion which will be of great interest to all Sky Blues fans.

Next month Hawkes Mill Sports Club whose proprietor is CCFPA member and a member of CCFC’s 1987 F.A.Cup Wembley winning side Lloyd McGrath is presenting an evening of question and answers with another CCFPA member and former Sky Blue striking star of a different playing era.

An ‘Evening with Gary Thompson’ takes place at Hawkes Mill on Friday 30th August kick off 7.30pm.

Starting out at Highfield Road as an apprentice with CCFC, his first club, Garry notched 49  goals in his 158 Sky Blues appearances between 1977-83 before moving on the further success with West Brom, Sheffield Wednesday, Aston Villa, Watford, Crystal Palace, Q.P.R. and Cardiff. He finished his professional career at Northampton in 1997 having scored 153 goals in a career total of 584 appearances over two decades. Garry’s younger brother Keith Thompson who played for the Sky Blues for two periods in the 1980s is also a CCFPA member.

Lloyd also started his career with the Sky Blues as a youngster in 1982 and wore the Sky Blue shirt 260 times (5 goals) for more than a decade between 1982-94 before finishing his career with games overseas with Sing Tao and back in the Uk with Portsmouth from 1994-97.
