The Two Elevens United After The Game

Claus pings one

CCFPA’s Sky Blues Legends were back in action for charity later on Remembrance Sunday in competition for the Sinead O’Toole Memorial Trophy. The game was held Hawkes Mill Social and Sporting Club in Coventry run by CCFPA member and Sky Blue 1987 F.A.Cup winning star Lloyd McGrath.

Action from the game

The game, on Sunday 12th November, was the second in what is becoming an annual fixture between the Legends and an eleven representing one of the Association’s Corporate members PET-Xi (see our dedicated CM page above). They also happen to be the employer of former Sky Blue reserve player  Gavin O’Toole and both teams again took the field in memory of Gavin’s late wife Sinead who was lost to his family at a tragically early age last year!  In short the Legends team hit the eleven representing our Corporate Members for six repeating their victory of last year!

Bussty Asks Ref For Clarification!

The Legends’ team consisted of CCFC commercial manager and former Sky Blue reserve goalkeeper Tynan Scope between the sticks with outfield our FP members Dave Busst, John Williams,Marcus Hall, Stuart Giddings, Andy Morrell, Claus Bech Jorgensen and Andrew Whing along with former City youngster Paul O’Brien plus guests Mel Ward and Dave Crowley making up the eleven. On the bench were Terry Angus, Myles Hannon and former CCFC youngster Michael Stephenson.

CCFPA committee member Dean Nelson (who is also the ‘Legends’ fixtures secretary has provided us with the match report (below):-

There was a slow start to the match with neither side creating many chances, Andy Morrell going closest and the first half half ended goalless!

Legends Take A Well Earned break

There were changes in the second half with Angus and Stephenson coming on for Busst and Crowley. An early chance for PET-Xi’s came after a poor back pass from Angus sent up a chance but unfortunately the PET-Xi striker hit the post and the ball was cleared. Minutes later the Legends were awarded a penalty after a handball following a cross. John Williams took the spot kick and cleared the cross bar and it continued rising over the club house and was last seen heading down the A45 !! (Sadly for ‘The Flying Postman’ there is a Facebook video of the miss – to see it click here!)

Where Is Everybody?

The PET-Xi team went straight up the other end and themselves were awarded a spot kick, but the timid kick was well saved by Martin Lewis lookalike Tynan Scope. Eventually someone scored! Marcus Hall ran down the left and his pin point cross found Andy Morrell who met it first time with his left foot and found the net. The second arrived soon after when Marcus Hall got on the end of a cross from substitute Myles Hannon. The third Legends’ goal came when another Hall and Morrell move finished with Morrell’s powerful header from Hall’s cross.

More action

Dave Busst returned to the field replacing O’Brien and was free at the far post he headed back across goal only to find a PET-Xi defender who then in- turn headed past his own keeper for the Legends 4th goal! Stuart Giddings thought he’d got a fifth but it was ruled off for offside! Instead, Marcus Hall got his second after cross fell to Myles Hannon who despite slipping over the ball managed to knock it on to Hall who finished with ease. Marcus completed his hat trick after great work down the right and Morrell dummied allowing Hall to finish the move off for 6-0.

Marcus shouts to Stuart ‘Pass It!’

Thus, the final score was PET-XI 0 CCFPA Legends 6 (Hall 3, Morrell 2, o.g.).”

There were plenty of supporters there to support both sets of players though CCFPA’s Billy Bell, Kirk Stephens and Dave Bennett seemed to prefer to keep warm in the clubhouse whilst the rest of us braved the cold!!

Andy Morrell In The Thick Of It

Also back from laying a wreath the Remembrance Sunday service at the War Memorial Park in the morning were Richard & Sarah Morris (who kindly brought the supplies of Haribos). Also there was their daughter Gracie, Dean & Debbie Nelson and Associate Member Amy-Louise Swatman.  Everyone enjoyed their autumn afternoon of football.

TFP Takes A Rest

So, the Sky Blues Legends XI add another victory to their winning run to end their 2017 season.

We look forward to further Legends fixtures in 2018 when PET Xi will likely have another chance to prevent making it a Sky Blues hat-trick of wins and wrest the Trophy from their grasp!
