Some of the items on offer

The Association, being run by an exceedingly hard working committee of volunteers, is always grateful for the additional support of a number of helpers each Legends Day and last Saturday was no exception. LD24 is our biggest annual expense of time and effort in ensuring the best experience for Sky Blues fans and our visiting Former Players. It is also a big opportunity to boost our funds through our annual raffle, sale of CCFPA merchandise (ties, caps and badges etc.) and auction of memorabilia.

This is a major source of income to supplement the generous support of our Corporate Membership now we have made our Associate Membership a voluntary rather than subscription option.

We had a stall under the big screen in the club’s Premier Lounge where fans had ‘brunch with the Legends’ prior to the game. There we displayed the auction items, raffle prizes and CCFPA items for sale.

This year due especially due to the entrepreneurial spirit of husband a wife committee members Richard and Sarah Morris and some generous donations from a range of supporters plus the major sponsorship for LD24 given to us by Coventry Building Society we generated  wonderful four figure sum to support our future activities.

Thanks to everyone involved in the day, sponsors, helpers donors, committee members and Sky Blue fand who participated in the raffle and auction!

The auction was held and the raffle tickets were sold during the brunch; the raffle was drawn at half-time and all items that had been won were picked up after the game.

This year we had some wonderful prizes to tempt Sky Blues supporters. In the raffle we offered items with a wide range of values, namely:-

A complete mountain bike; a much coveted jumbo bottle of Jameson whisky,  a Sky Blue themed book and trivia cards, a football signed by the 2023/24 CCFC squad (above right),

a Four Ball at the Warwicks Golf Club, a meal for two in the G-Casino, a poster signed by popular former Sky Blue striker, our member, Terry Gibson, a Sky Blue cap autographed by CCFC’s central defender Liam Kitching, an Escape Room voucher and a print of CCFC’s Haji Wright signed by CCFC’s star striker.

There was also a framed ‘Sky Blue Song’ poster (above left) which had been signed by all the Former Players who had come to join us at LD24 as they arrived (above right).

As far as the auction went we were exceptionally grateful for the generosity of the Premier Lounge diners in hearty bidding for each item and most went for three figure sums. CCFPA’s Billy Bell did the honours in geeing up the bidding war (right) as Jim Brown held up each item (left). These were:-

A framed England shirt signed by our member, popular former Sky Blue James Maddison;  a framed CCFC 2023/24 shirt signed by the squad (right); another framed ‘Sky Blue Song’ canvas which had been signed by all the Former Players who had come to join us at LD24; Platinum dining for four at a Sky Blues home game next season (plus as a separate prize two places in the club’s boardroom for a 2024/25 game); a table for ten and next year’s Legends Day 2025 and lastly a solid silver limited edition, boxed 1987 F.A.Cup Commemorative medal (right).

A delighted winner, Alan Malik!

We also had another item signed by our 36 ‘stars of the past’ present at Legends Day 2024,  a multi signed copy of the lyrics of the club’s newly adopted anthem (from Cov band ‘the Enemy‘) ‘We’ll Live & Die In These Towns‘. This framed poster (below right) was presented to staff at Coventry Building Society in appreciation of them sponsoring us for LD24.

All that remains of our coverage of of this years major Sky Blue Former Player reunion is to remind you pictorially of some of the concluding parts of LD24 in particular all the fun and games down in the G-Casino where many of our 36 ‘stars of the past’ were conducted post-match for further refreshments and to join CCFPA’ Billy Bell on stage in the Lady G’s supporters lounge for some more Q&A’s some banter with the fans and the traditional finale to another wonderful day – the mass choir singing the Sky Blue song. Check back on this site tomorrow to share this with us!
Thanks to CCFPA’s Mike Young, Richard Morris and ‘official photographer’ Andy Scaysbrook for today’s images.
