Barry in action 2001

In the second CCFPA FP Sky Blue birthday today the Association is pleased to send our best Birthday Greetings to our member, former Sky Blue defender Barry Quinn!  Born in Dublin on 9th May 1979 Barry is therefore celebrating his 45th Birthday today!

Barry came to Highfield Road as a YTS apprentice in 1996 from Irish junior club Manortown United turning pro two years later, making his Premiership debut when the Sky Blues went down 2-0 at Manchester United‘s citadel, Old Trafford.

Barry in the Sky Blue

Over the next five and a half seasons Barry clocked up 91 Sky Blue first team appearances (including subs) though without ever finding the net for the Sky Blues. He also represented his country from U15s to U21s (whilst with the Sky Blues) and won his four Full Republic of Ireland Caps before 2001.

After four appearances in loan spell with Rushden and Diamonds (January 2004) Barry joined Oxford United on a free in May 2004 (after a loan spell a couple of months earlier) becoming indispensable for them until released in May 2009.  He played in over two hundred first team league games (netting six times) for the U’s before being released in April 2009. Up until 2012 Barry also turned out for non-league Brackley Town.

Both before and after our fairly recent Birmingham ‘exile’, Barry is quite often seen at Sky Blues matches at the Ricoh/CBS and has also been a ‘special’ guest for us at past Sky Blues games. He is a regular supporter of our Legends Day reunions (he is pictured right at March 2019’s event) and has also turned out for charity from time to time with the Sky Blues ‘Legends XI’. He is pictured left at a recent Sky Blues game with fellow CCFPA member Stuart Giddings (above left).

We hope you have a great day of celebration on your birthday today, Barry and look forward to seeing you back next season at the CBS Arena when the Sky Blues once more play Championship football in Coventry, or ‘dream of dreams’ perhaps even in the Premier League (watch this space)!!!
