Extra Special Guest Ian Wallace signs in for LD24

One of the 36 Legends attending Legends Day 2024 last Saturday at the CBS Arena had additional duties to perform as the Sky Blues finished their Championship season against QPR. Popular and renowned former Sky Blues striker from the 1970s Ian Wallace, quite apart from coming down from Scotland to attend our grand reunion, was our extra ‘special guest’ in that he performed the normal ‘around the lounges’ of each of our match-day ‘specials’.

Ian Wallace & Tats interviewed by ‘Harry’

In a long day for our former Scottish international Ian not only brunched with fellow former Sky Blue defender Brian Roberts but also toured round the various supporters lounges in the CBS Arena main stand with ‘Harry’ and CCFC’s currently injured Japanese star Tatsuhiro Sakamoto for some entertaining Q&As. A video of one of these chats with ‘Tats’ and ‘Wally’ can be seen (courtesy CCFPA’s Richard Morris) on the Association’s Facebook page -just click on the Facebook button on the right of this posting.

We show you here some of the photos of Wally’s day with us and others will appear subsequently in subsequent posts in coming days.

Ian has always been a popular returning visitor to Coventry City, his self confessed favourite club, where as a ‘will o’the wisp’ inside man he formed a striking ‘deadly duo’ with big centre forward (and now fellow CCFPA member) Mick Ferguson over several Division One seasons before moving to Nottingham Forest for £1.25m in July 1980.

Ian was also much in demand by the media and is pictured (left) doing an interview with BBC CWR’s Rob Gurney.

He is the Sky Blues favourite player for many CCFC fans, not least long term fan of more than 50 years  John Bydon!

CCFPA Vice Chairman Billy Bell made arrangements for John to meet Wally during his long day with us and we are pleased to share the photo below of their encounter in the VIP lounge in the G-Casino after the match!

Thanks Ian (and Billy) for making John a happy man!

John Bydon proud to have a chat with Ian
