The Association sends the second of its Sky Blues birthday congratulations on this day to our member William Edjenguélé. He was born in Paris on this day (7th May) in 1987 only a few days before the Sky Blues (and the other Birthday Boy Brian Killer’ Kilcline) lifted the F.A.Cup in London at Wembley!

‘The Edje’ confirmed the Wembley link in 2017 when he married Rachel, the daughter of CCFPA member and club Legend Steve Ogrizovic. This time four years ago William and Rachel had quite recently produced twins so making ‘Oggy’ a grandpa three times over! In summer 2017 CCFPA signed up William and chairman Jim Brown was later able to present him with a modest gift for his then upcoming wedding to Rachel (below right).

The Edje in Sky Blue action

William started out in French football with CFF Paris (1993) eventually joining Le Mans Union Club ’72 in 2005. After three years at Le Mans he moved to Neuchâtel Xamax until spring 2010. He soon signed with Greek outfit Panetolikos F.C. where he became a key member of their 2010-11 Championship squad and their subsequent brief sojourn in the Greek Superleague the following season- sadly relegated after one season.

Jim meets the Edje

‘The Edje’ was brought to the Ricoh initially on trial in 2012 starring in a 8–0 friendly win over Hinckley United in pre-season. He subsequently signed for us on 17 July 2012 on a three-year contract and scored his first and only goal for the Sky Blues, with a header, in a 3–1 win over Colchester United in November 2012. He made a good impression on fans as a ‘big’ player in the side and many were sorry to see him leave after only one season and forty games in the Sky Blue. Before the start of the 2013-14 season William’s contract was terminated by mutual consent as City saw several leave the club as it continued to battle with its financial problems.

‘The Edje’ imperious

‘The Edje’ almost immediately signed for Bury on a free, but in January 2014 he cancelled his contract on mutual terms and re-signed for his former Greek club Panetolikos F.C. and, after a successful season, William moved to Greek Super League club Veria and in August 2016 returned to the U.K. signing an initial one-year contract with Scottish club Dundee United playing 69 times for the Scottish club netting twice. From January to November 2019 William was out on loan at Falkirk and made a dozen appearances (also netting once).

William at LD23

‘The Edje’ got a few games for non league Wealdstone. In June 2020 he left the London club to team up with Nuneaton Borough. William also got further match action with Barwell in 2021-22. He has also turned out for the Sky Blue Legends XI for charity three years or so ago (left). More recently, from September 2022 our member has pulled on a green shirt for Bedworth United for one campaign and for the just concluded season 2023-24 he played central defender for Coventry Sphinx.

It was great to see William and Oggy as part of the contingent of nearly forty FPs who attended Legends Day 2023 at the CBS and he was back again last Saturday at LD24 as can be seen from other posts this week!

We hope the Edjenguélé and Ogrizovic families share a great day helping William celebrate his 37th birthday today.
