Committee Member News: Chairman Jim’s Blog Out Recently – Worth A Look!

This Association’s committee Chairman and founding member Jim Brown has produced a long-standing, roughly weekly, blog post about all things Sky Blue for many years. Parts of it have also appeared in a regular column for the Coventry Telegraph.

The posts are a mine of information about the club’s recent and long distant past. As most Sky Blue fans know Jim is also Coventry City FC’s official club historian. The latest blog of this Championship season 2023-24 has recently been published online but this time concentrates on the F.A.Cup.

His latest posting was written prior to the Sky Blues 5-0 demolition of non-league Maidstone United in the Fifth Round last Monday night. Jim provides chapter and verse on the Club’s performance each time they have reached the last sixteen of the competition since going all the way to win at Wembley in 1987. Prior to their Stones victory they had only seven attempts in the last 36 years and got through only twice (each time biting the dust in the Quarter Finals). Let’s hope we can go one better in 2024!

Again Jim gives details of the dozen times out of 17 post-war attempts prior to Maidstone that CCFC have vanquished non-league opponents in the Cup though that leaves five embarrassing slip ups against the likes of Kings Lynn, Sutton United, Worcester City and Wrexham.  Like all Sky Blues fans Jim now knows Mark Robins‘ men have taken CCFC to the last eight for only the eighth time in their 140-year history!

Jim also looks at where in the record books to place the Sky Blues current hot streak of scoring in 20 successive games (which ended recently in that 3-0 home collapse to Preston).

Jim finishes by looking to put flesh on a programme scan of a CCFC friendly game with an England Youth XI at Highfield Road on 11 December 1962 when a number of future stars turned out.

As usual there’s much food for thought  and plenty for Sky Blue fans to get their teeth into in Jim’s latest offering as Sky Blue fans ‘keep the faith’ for the current campaign. It and all previous instalments of the blog can be read by clicking on the link below:-

As usual it is well worth a read!
