Adam Walker in the Sky Blue 2009-10

In July 2021 we welcomed ‘Cov.Kid’ former young Sky Blues’ midfielder Adam Walker to membership of this FPA! Now there is another reason to celebrate -his birthday (the second of a pair of Sky Blue birthdays today)! Born in Coventry on 22nd January 1991 the current Leamington FC player is therefore celebrating his 33rd Birthday today!

Though having a long association with CCFC being a product of the Sky Blues youth system since joining the Sky Blues’ junior teams at age eight Adam only got to appear for the first team three times in two seasons whilst a youngster. Nevertheless Adam is a life long Sky Blues fan (and a season ticket holder from the age of six)!

As a 17 year old breaking into the first team, he had a right to dream of a long career at his home town club but sadly this was not to be. Like many young professionals, he has had to move on to develop his footballing career being released less than a year after his debut. The midfielder had been given his chance to debut as a late substitute by Sky Blues’ ‘gaffer’ Chris Coleman as his team secured a 2-0 Championship victory over Sheffield Wednesday on the 28th December 2008. However, Adam had to wait until 13th April 2009 for another opportunity (again off the bench) in CCFC’s 0–0 draw against Charlton Athletic again at the Ricoh Arena. What turned out to be his last appearance (and only first team start) came early the following season on 12th August 2009 in a dreadful 1-0 home defeat in the Carling Cup to lowly Hartlepool United.

Adam Walker (Telford United)

Adam had been sent out on loan, from 28th October, to Nuneaton Town so it was no surprise he joined them on a permanent deal on 1 April 2010 after being released by CCFC.  At the Sky Blues non league near neighbours Adam clocked up more than 200 games for ‘the Borough’ in six seasons  scoring at least 24 times. There he was a big part of their promotion winning side to the National League during the 2011-12 season. Adam then spent 2015-16 with Solihull Moors contributing 1 goal in 31 outings (being part of the season when they won their league by ten points)! Then he moved to the Moors’ National League North rivals Brackley Town for a couple of successful seasons and two goals in 72 games.

  1. In May 2019 Adam joined another National League North club AFC Telford United on initially a one year deal. After a total of just three goals in eight appearances for Telford since January 2022 Adam then plyed his trade at The New Windmill home of Leamington FC.

Additionally keeping his hand in outside the game, since 2015 Adam has been a Business Development Manager and since 2019 has worked for Market Location, a database and direct marketing company.

We hope to be able to entertain Adam at the CBS Arena in Coventry, subject to his playing commitments, at a CCFC home game and/or an Association event hopefully during the rest of the Sky Blues Championship season. In the meantime have a ‘Very Happy Birthday’ today, Adam!
