Benno in the Sky Blue

We are delighted to announce that the Association’s long-standing committee member, Sky Blue 1987 F.A.Cup winning hero, Dave Bennett is our Sky Blue ‘special’ for next Saturday afternoon’s Third Round F.A.Cup against Oxford United at the CBS Arena (k.o.12.30pm).

Often our ‘special’ over the years at the Ricoh/CBS Arena ‘Benno’ is a long standing supporter of the club and usually in attendance at Sky Blues’ games both mundane and illustrious over CCFC’s recent history. Always in the thick of CCFPA events and reunions he will have plenty of interest to say for supporters in his various Q&As during the day. He, like all Sky Blue fans will be expecting CCFC to make Cup progress especially after that excellent 3-1 Championship win at Middlesbrough last time out. However, Mark Robins‘ men will not be counting their chickens as CCFC do not have a particularly great record at avoiding banan skins in cups against lower league opponents!

As normal fo our ‘specials’ Dave will be touring ‘around the lounges’ in the fans areas in main stand at the stadium in the company of club host and former Sky Blue defender (and fellow Association member) Brian ‘Harry’ Roberts before kick-off. After the game we are sure he will join CCFPA’s Billy Bell on stage in Lady Gs Lounge in the Arena’s G-Casino where both men will no doubt keep CCFC fans happy with their chat about all things Sky Blue whatever the result!

Starting out at Maine Road Manchester with Manchester City in 1978 the tricky winger moved to Cardiff City in 1981 before being brought to Highfield Road. A nominated true ‘CCFC Legend’, from 1983-89 ‘Benno’ scored 25 league goals in 172 league appearances for the Sky Blues before moving on to Sheffield Wednesday and was a Wembley scorer in City’s memorable victory over ‘Spurs in the 1987 Final.

In the nineties ‘Benno’ completed his footballing career with Swindon Town, a loan spell at Shrewsbury Town and finally a short time playing non league locally at Nuneaton Borough.

Now President of local club Coventry Sphinx ‘Benno’ need little introduction to local audiences and is well known to Former Players of several eras.

If you can’t get to the game, as usual, you can always listen our member, club Legend Steve Ogrizovic on the airwaves as part of the BBC CWR commentary team. If you purchase a matchday programme for the game there will be the usual contribution from CCFPA committee member Jim Brown.

Look out for a full photo report of Dave’s day with us tomorrow on this site!

PUSB!
