Scott Dann in the Sky Blue 2018

Last June (2023) we unveiled Sky Blue central defender  Scott Dann as the Association’s latest member. Today we have another cause to share celebration with Scott and wish him ‘Many Happy Returns of the Day’ as he marks his 37th birthday today!

Most recently Scott spent two seasons League One Reading who were sadly relegated from the Championship at the end of the season before last after being CCFC rivals. He made 32 appearances netting twice during his time at the Royals his last season greatly hampered by injury. CCFPA Chairman Jim Brown was put into touch with Scott by our member, former Sky Blue forward Robbie Simpson and CCFPA’s Recruitment Officer Ed Blackaby sent Scott his membership badge and tie to cement his membership.

Scott Dann in Sky Blue action

The Liverpudlian (born 14 February 1987) began his career with Walsall after joining as a junior in 2003 signing on as a professional contract in 2004 graduating to the first team via the Saddlers reserve team throughout 2004–05. After several loan spells, to further build up his experience, with Danish side Køge BK and Redditch United (both 2005) and Hednesford Town (2006) Scott became an invaluable member of the Saddlers’ team, helping them gain promotion to League One, and finishing with eight goals in 69 appearances before the Sky Blues came calling in January 2008.

Signed for reportedly ‘in excess of £1m’ his impressive Saddlers’ form continued in the Championship for the Sky Blues partnered with another former Walsall alumni Danny Fox. Both helped the Sky Blues narrowly avoid relegation in their first campaign and both made their international debuts for England Under 21s in March 2008 against Poland at Wolverhampton Wanderers‘ ground Molineux. Scott won both his U21s caps within weeks of joining City in the January transfer window. The central defender made his Sky Blue debut from the bench at the Ricoh Arena against Barnsley on 2nd February 2008 and went on to captain the Sky Blues for the 2008–09 season.

Scott Dann (Reading)

By the time Scott transferred the short distance across the West Midlands to Birmingham City in June 2009 he had clocked up four goal in his 51 Sky Blue appearances. He produced a similar output at St.Andrews in the Premier League (three goals in sixty outings) though they suffered relegation at the end of his second season. Moving to Blackburn Rovers in August 2011 (reuniting with Steve Kean who had been at CCFC at the same time) Scott saw relegation from the top flight again in his first season but ended after three seasons at Ewood Park with seven goals in 106 appearances. From January 2014 Crystal Palace was Scott’s next port of call and he eventually became captain there (like for all his previous clubs). In eight seasons in south London Scott contributed sixteen goals in 181 outings for Palace.

Scott has not started a third season for Reading in 2023-24 as it was announced in May 2023 that he would be leaving the club at the completion of his contract.

Commitments allowing we hope to see you at a Sky Blues game and/or Association event this season or next!
