Gray, W (Billy) 1952The funeral of former Bantam Billy Gray (03/12/1931 – 18/07/2014) who died last month took place at St Cuthbert’s Church, Bellingham, Hexham, Northumberland earlier today (1st August 2014). CCFPA was represented by our Welfare Officer, Bob Eales who sent us a photo of St Cuthburt’s before the service began.

St Cuthbert's (Billy Gray)

Billy who made two league and a number of reserve appearances for CCFC between 1948-54 came to Legends Day at the Ricoh in 2012 and son Alan told us it was wonderful to see his dad’s face light up when he came back to Coventry to meet old friends, former colleagues and the welcome of the Sky Blue fans. A brief appreciation of Billy’s time at Coventry penned by CCFPA chairman and club historian Jim Brown appears in the ‘Gone But Not Forgotten’ section under the ‘Players’ tab above.

No doubt Bob (who presented Billy with his Association tie at the 2012 event)  will provide a report of the the proceedings in due course on what was a sad day for all Billy’s friends and family and those in the wider CCFC family who remember him from the time he lived in Binley and worked (and played football) at Morris Motors.
