Peter Ndlovu

On this day 30 years ago (6th February) in 1993 the Sky Blues travelled up to Teesside to take on Middlesbrough and came away with a 2-0 victory, their sixth away from Highfield Road this season. Previous away wins comprised 2-0 at White Hart Lane (Tottenham Hotspur); 2-1 at Wimbledon‘s Plough Lane; 2-1 at Sheffield Wednesday‘s Hillsborough; 1-0 at Oldham Athletic and 5-2 at Blackburn Rovers‘ Ewood Park! City had beaten the ‘Boro 2-1 at Highfield Road on the opening day of the season so were on a ‘double’ and this is what they achieved today with a 2-0 victory!

Mick Quinn in the Sky Blue

Europe seemed on the cards for fourth place City at Ayresome Park, which contained a raucous 14,008 fans, but sadly this was to be their last win on foreign soil in the 1992-93 season and CCFPA member and former Sky Blue player Bobby Gould‘s boys finished up in fifteenth place come May!

For the goals in brief, Peter Ndlovu (who played a blinder) conjured up a clever one-two with CCFPA member Lee Hurst and found the net on 68 minutes and their fellow CCFPA member Micky Quinn got the second after the ‘Boro goalkeeper Stephen Pears spilled Nuddy’s shot at 79 minutes.

CCFC 1992-93

Middlesbrough continued to have a more than tricky season and went down in penultimate spot five points away from safety with Crystal Palace and bottom club Nottingham Forest.

Manchester United took the title by a massive ten points from Aston Villa.

Thanks to CCFPA’s Mike Young for sourcing the images and video.
