Sky Blues Pay Their Respects

Jay Bothroyd

On an emotional early afternoon in Coventry the Sky Blues had to conceded victory to top six opponents West Bromwich Albion. The match was covered live by SKY TV and former Sky Blue Jay Bothroyd (with Kevin Phillips) offered them his comments during the game. The big CBS crowd, with a large contingent of Baggies supporters, gave a warm tribute to recently passed away CCFC legend John Sillett with a minute’ s applause before kickoff. Despite  ‘Snoz’ watching over the game via a giant poster on the terraces and videos and images onthe big scoreboard, the visitors ran out winners by the odd goal in three.

Harry with Garry

Our ‘special’ guest for the day Garry Thompson would have been impressed by the commitment and energy shown by both teams throughout the game. Albion took their chances well though their second was a disputed goal with a Baggies hand involved, eventually awarded as an own goal from Sky Blues inspirational centre back Kyle McFadzean. Kyle gave City a chance with a late firm header but, for the Sky Blues, it came just too late even for a club used to late comebacks.

Garry & Billy

As well as doing his Q&As in front of fans with club host Brian ‘Harry’ Roberts ‘around the lounges’ pre-match and joining CCFPA’s Billy Bell for an interview and some fun and games from the stage of Lady Gs, Gary had another duty. He was pleased to meet fans to sign copies of his recently published autobiography ‘Don’t Believe A Word’ both before and after the game. Though there was disappointment that the Sky Blues could not manage a win for Snoz the Sky Blues showed both skill and fight, if not enough finishing sharpness, as they move on to another tough fixture at Huddersfield next week.

Minutes Applause For Snoz

Thanks Garry for being a great ‘special’. we hope to see you back in Coventry for Legends Day next year which will be a tribute game for both club legends we have so recently lost John Sillett and George Curtis.
