Members News: One Of the Sky Blue Williams Boys Is 52 Today! Congrats Paul (R)!!
The Association has three members named ‘Williams’. There is John, ‘The Flying Postman‘ , the Sky Blues fleet footed winger (1992-95) and Paul D. ‘Willo’ the Sky Blues centre-back (1995-2001). This Paul (Paul R.C.) played 18 times in the Sky Blues defence between 1993-95 having been signed from Stockport County where he made 70 league appearances (4 goals).
This Paul was born in Leicester on 11th September 1969 and is therefore celebrating his 52nd Birthday today! Congratulations, Paul!
This Paul is the most recent of his namesakes to sign up to the Association, only becoming a member at Legends Day 2018 over three year’s ago.
Paul had a great time at the Sky Blues last game of that season which guaranteed sixth spot in League Two and set up the play-off finals which the Sky Blues won at Wembley against Exeter City. We were therefore pleased to see him back at our last major reunion LD19 in March 2019 when he enjoyed another good get together with former colleagues!
Paul R. also had loan spells with W.B.A. and Huddersfield Town whilst with CCFC and after the Sky Blues released him he went on to play for Plymouth Argyle where he wore the Mariners’ shirt 131 times in the league (netting four times).
From 1998 Paul had spells at the likes of Gillingham, Bury and Leigh RMI, hanging up his boots in 2003.
Paul is pictured at Legends Day 2019 (left) being welcomed onto the Ricoh pitch and (right) being greeted by CCFPA’s Mike Young prior to being signed up at LD18.
We hope you have a great birthday today Paul and look forward to seeing you back at a Sky Blues game or CCFPA event before too long now that ‘normal services’ are starting to be resumed!
