Chris Greenman in the Sky Blue

The Association’s newest member is perhaps one that Sky Blues fans will have plenty of excuse to struggle to place since former young CCFC No.6 Chris Greenman only pulled on the Sky Blue first team shirt seven times in all (six in the league and once off the bench) in his two playing seasons at the club between 1991-93. Welcome Chris!

A Bristolian by birth  (22nd December 1968) Chris was a product of the Sky Blues youth programme joining in 1988. The tall, lanky defender came relatively late into the game taking up a trainee slot at City aged 18 after doing his ‘A’ levels. He  signed professional forms in close season 1989 and the youngster made his debut in Division One, when Terry Butcher was Sky Blue ‘gaffer’, in the club’s 2-1 home defeat to Crystal Palace on 10th October 1991.

Chris made his last appearance in the league substituting for (now fellow CCFPA member Barry Quinn) in City’s 1-0  defeat at Manchester City in the new Premier League under manager (and former player) Bobby Gould. Chris was sold to Peterborough Utd in March 1993 having gone to the London Road club on trial the previous February.

In the 1993-94 season Chris clocked up 34 league games for the Posh in his first full season in senior football. However, he fairly quickly dropped into non league football subsequently appearing for both Bromsgrove Rovers and Worcester City (1996). He faced severe injury problems whilst with Worcester whick kept him out of the then Doc Martens League Premier League side and the club captain was struggling to recover as late as 2001.

CCFPA Chairman Jim Brown established initial contact with Chris as we know welcome him to the Association. We look forward to seeing him during the Sky Blues upcoming Championship season now they are rightfully back in their Coventr home after their two season Birmingham exile. Chris joins more than forty new CCFPA recruits signed up in the last few months largely thanks to the energy of our Recruitment Officer Ed Blackaby. All former players, managers of coaching staff of CCFC we are approaching 300 current Full Members. The full list can be seen by pressing the ‘About Us‘ tab above and selecting the ‘Current Members‘ option.
