Members News: ‘Bakes’ & ‘The Edje’ Help Borough Beat Kyle’s Halesowen Pre Season
CCFPA member and former Coventry City midfielder and ‘skipper’ Carl Baker scored for Nuneaton Borough yesterday afternoon in a friendly game, his first after returning to the Sky Blues’ near neighbours Nuneaton Borough after a spell at Brackley Town.
‘Bakes’, who captained the Nuneaton side scored in the 46th minute of a 2-2 draw at home to Halesown Town finishing at the back post after the Boro’s Marcus Kelly had squared it across to Carl.
Carl made 28 goals in 182 Sky Blue appearances between 2010-14 and also a brief second spell (no appearances) in 2018. Frenchman William scored once in 40 Sky Blues games in 2012-13.
Interestingly, the Yeltz also fielded an ex Sky Blue, former City youngster Kyle Finn who was a CCFC Academy product who made his debut and sole Sky Blue appearance in City’s 3–1 EFL Cup loss to Blackburn Rovers on 8 August 2017.
He then joined Tamworth on loan in 2018 and then signed for them in August that year later being transferred to Hereford after a period on loan with them (with CCFC apparently getting a sell-on fee). Other loan spells followed with both Stourbridge (August 2019) and Rushall Olympic before Kyle landed at Halesowen for this season transferring to the Yeltz in June 2021.
