Near Clean Sweep For CCFPA Members In Sky Blue Tavern Vote
Recently Coventry City FC and Dhillon’s Brewery (run by Sky Blues’ supporters) announced a collaboration to open a new hostelry in the City centre reviving a name which means a lot in the memories of fans of the club, the new Sky Blue Tavern. The sports bar, which was a landmark wateringhole for visitors to Highfield Road prior to their move to the Ricoh in 2005, was located near to the ground in Thackall Street. The new Tavern will be open to the Sky Blue Army and other football supporters at later in August this summer ready for the new football season is located at Hertford Place near J7 of the Coventry Ring Road.
As would be expected, the new venue will be Sky Blues themed, with historic images and memorabilia throughout the two-storey building. As part of the deal Dhillons the Tavern will be populated with identifiable booths each named after a former CCFC Star of the Past. Nominations closed recently for the Sky Blue faithful to vote for their favourites across the playing positions.
The winners, all club Legends, were recently announced by CCFC and Dhillons. Sky Blues fans were said to have ‘voted in their thousands’ to get their favourite’s names to top the poll. Each of the eleven named booths will be available to book, with TV screens inside to allow fans to watch the sporting action! We are pleased that (apart from Gary Mac) all of the chosen eleven are members of CCFPA (and ‘Benno’ is a CCFPA committee member).
Sadly only ‘Big Cyrille’ who passed away a few year’s ago will not be able to visit ‘their’ booth in person. Each chosen former player will be proud to have been selected from the many illustrious Sky Blues ‘names’ originally nominated to have their name attached to each booth in perpetuity!
