Sad to say it was former Sky Blues stars, striker Leon Clarke and midfielder John Fleck whose goals did the damage at Bramall Lane last night as CCFC went down 2-0 to top of the table Sheffield United.

Though neither players are members of the Association both are well remembered at their Ricoh for their positive contribution to the Sky Blue cause in their day and will probably have mixed feelings in virtually condemning the Sky Blues to the drop to League Two at the end of the season.

Clearly many of the Sky Blues players in the team had to overcome tired legs and tired minds after the exertions and euphoria of Sunday’s Checkatrade Trophy win at Wembley.

It was also good to hear CCFPA member and former Sky Blues defender Richard Wood interviewed by BBC CWR after the game. Always popular at the Ricoh, ‘Woody’ is now plying his trade at Rotherham.

New gaffer Mark Robins and his coaching team can be relied upon to ensure the team recharge batteries and recover confidence in time for Saturday’s game at the Ricoh with peterborough United. What better incentive than to be playing in front of over 40 Sky Blue stars of the past at our 10th Anniversary Legends Day 2017

After all, last year the team ran out triumphant 6-0 winners against Bury and Robbins has already sparked a mini Ricoh revival with two home victories in succession before Saturday’s game!
