Imps Best Tractor Boys in FA Cup Replay: Win Grants Them Searing 4th Round Seagulls Tie
Last night was not a good one for the former Sky Blues now playing for Championship side Ipswich Town. CCFPA member and former striker Leon Best, loanee defender Grant Ward and loanee forward Freddie Sears (replacing Leon) all appeared in the Tractor Boys side which again failed to beat their non-league opponents (after having to twice coming from behind at Portman Road to draw and earn this replay).
A well travelled player, Leon will be remembered by fans as a somewhat inconsistent forward appearing for the Sky Blues between 2007-10 and netting 19 times in his 92 league outings before moving to Newcastle United; Freddie (2010 -10 league appearances) and Grant (2015 – 12 league apps.) spent relatively short loan periods at the Ricoh.
In the F.A.Cup 3rd round replay on Tuesday evening Lincoln City, also currently flying high top in the Vanarama National League, ‘bested’ their more illustrious opponents in many departments. Their injury time goal at the end of the match ‘granted’ them a plum 4th round home tie against another Championship side, Brighton & Hove Albion on the 28th. If Lincoln City ‘sears’ the Seagulls with another F.A.Cup success the Imps will be really soaring!! (apologies for the excessive puns)
