Our ‘special guest’ for the Sky Blues game last Bank Holiday Monday night was former CCFC midfielder (and CCFPA committee member) Claus Bech Jorgensen. On a very wet Ricoh night Claus watched a much closer contest with Southend United than many expected with the Sky Blues taking on a bottom four side yet to win League One game.

Claus toured the supporter’s lounges before the game in the company of fellow CCFPA member Brian ‘Harry’ Roberts (and injured CCFC defender Jordan Willis and they were both in ebullient form as they talked about past memories as well as the excellent start made by the Sky Blues this season. Claus went on to provide cogent live match-day analysis for the BBC CWR commentary team as they watched the game unfold. It was far from a bore draw. A welcome strike from Reda Johnson after a number of chances went begging at both ends was unfortunately quickly nullified by the Shrimpers. The Sky Blues than had to come back from behind after a succesful Southend penalty kick and a Jim O’Brien penalty failure. A smart header by Sky Blues Captain Sam Ricketts restored parity but considerable second half pressure from the home team failed to get the three points. However, City retain their unbeaten Ricoh start this season and the draw ensures they keep handily placed in a play-off position.

In the company of CCFPA vice chairman Billy Bell Claus then enjoyed a warm welcome from Sky Blues fans in Lady Gs after the game as Billy quizzed the scorer of the Sky Blues first ever Ricoh goal (now a full decade later) about the evening’s events. Thanks Claus for making a great contribution to the evening!
