Legends Day 2015: Sky Blues of 1970s-2000s welcomed onto the Ricoh Turf

This morning we provided a photo montage of the Sky Blues heroes of the 1950s and 1960s being welcomed onto the Ricoh Arena’s pitch for their traditional pitch parade. Here now are the men of the Division One and Premier League years brought onto the pitch one by one to receive the acclaim of the Sky Blue Army. The last former player to enter, fittingly, was Claus Bech Jorgensen the man who scored CCFC’s first goal at the Ricoh in 2005 after the Club’s move from their home of the last 106 years, Highfield Road. These are selected from some of the best photos* taken by CCFPA’s official photographer Tony Thomas (tonythomasuk@btinternet.com) of Legends Day 2015.

First came three Sky Blues stars of the 1970s

Team Groups Composite 70s

Seventies stars (L-R): Quintin Young; Brian ‘Harry’ Roberts & Ian Wallace

….Followed by a quintet from the 1980s an era which included bringing back the F.A.Cup to Coventry in 1987 which ‘Benno’, ‘Gynny’ & ‘Cully’ will have particularly fond memories of as well as (presumably hard at work in the half time dressing room discussions) ‘Oggy’. Dave and Kirk, of course, are also CCFPA committee members)…….

Stalwarts of the Eighties: – Gerry Daly (1st time at Legends Day); Dave Bennett; Micky Gynn: Kirk Stephens & Paul Culpin

…… And then a quartet of FPs from the Nineties were introduced to the Ricoh faithful:-

(L-R) Lee Hurst; John Williams; Dave Busst & Paul Williams (& son)

Another CCFPA committee member, Claus Bech Jorgensen was the sole representative of the former playing staff of the noughties present. Last but not least we remembered all those former CCFC players who could not be with us at Legends Day, especially those that have passed away. Sky Blue supremo of the 1960s Jimmy Hill who was not well enough to attend sent his son Jamie and grandson Hugo to the Ricoh to represent him; Sky Blue player in the 1940s & 50s, trainer in the 1960s and kitman in the 80s, Peter Hill who died early this year was represented by his wife Barbara and CCFC ‘Iron Man’ central defender from the 1930s-50s George Mason who passed away in 1993 was represented by his son John (himself also a junior player for the Bantams).
