Terry Gibson Autobiography 2014 coverNews is out that CCFPA Member and former Sky Blue forward Terry Gibson has written a new autobiography which is being launched currently.

The book is called “Giant Killer” recognising the diminutive and terrier like striker’s penchant for assisting football underdogs take down football favourites. The self penned and published work covers Terry’s footballing career of over three decades from the late 1970s with principally Spurs, CCFC (1983-86), Manchester United and the original Wimbledon FC.

Two quotes at random might interest Coventry City fans, the first referring to the last goal in his hat-trick in the famous 4-1 Sky Blue Division One victory at Highfield Road against the mighty Liverpool in December 1983 and the second to a post match incident at Wimbledon involving Terry, Vinnie Jones and CCFPA member, former Sky Blue striker  Bobby Gould. Bobby, of course, was Terry’s gaffer both at Highfield Road and at the Wombles and led the notorious  ‘Crazy Gang’ team that shook the world of football by winning the FA Cup final in 1988 (the season after the Sky Blues own giant-killing act) when Wimbledon defeated Liverpool 1-0.

Gibson, T (Terry)I was in the left wing position cutting inside onto my right foot towards Bruce Grobbelaar with Alan Hansen and Mark Lawrenson chasing me down from the halfway line.  I ran in towards Grobelaar and had the perfect angle for a right foot curler in off the far post around him as he came out to narrow the angle and it worked to perfection.  As I wheeled away to celebrate I genuinely felt shivers down my spine”.

“I don’t know who threw the first punch, it could have been me Gouldy or Vinnie but it ended up with everybody else pulling the three of us apart!  We ended up confined into one toilet cubicle and three of us throwing punches, there was no escape and no way could anyone else get in there to break it up either. Eventually we all ended up on the floor.   It wasn’t a dignified ending”.

Once he hung up his boots at Barnet Terry carried on his career in football management and coaching from 1995-2007 and now earns his corn as a commentator/pundit for Sky Sports specialising in Spanish and European football.

The autobiography would make a good Xmas present, is out now and costs a modest £15.
