Dave Bennett 2010CCFPA are pleased to announce that popular Sky Blue Star of the 1980s Dave Bennett will be the Association’s ‘Special Guest’ this comimg Saturday as the Sky Blues take on the ‘Bristol Babes’.

As for most home games since the Club’s return to Coventry Dave will be at the Ricoh to see how fellow CCFPA member Steve Pressley‘s current squad of Sky Blues acquit themselves against table toppers Bristol City.  The game at the Ricoh is on Saturday, 18th October 2014. Benno believes the Sky Blues will have to be at their very best to beat the Bristolians who have taken League One by storm so far this season. However, despite some indifferent displays recently he feels that, on their day, the Sky Blues young team can match the best.

Bennett, D (Dave) 1986As a nominated true ‘CCFC Legend’ Dave will be hoping to bring inspiration to the Sky Blues matchday squad on Saturday and hopes for a sizeable ‘Ricoh roar’ to support the team’s efforts. Not only a long standing CCFPA committee member Dave has done much to support the work of various Legends’ charitable games over the years. Readers will need no reminding that he was an integral part of the magnificent Sky Blues F.A.Cup winning squad in 1986-87 having already built an illustrious career with Manchester City and Cardiff City. We show a memorable photo from the Semi Final victory over Leeds United at Hillsborough with Dave (foreground right) leading the lads in a rendition of the Sky Blue Song. From 1983-89 he scored 25 league goals in 172 league appearances for the Sky Blues before moving on to Sheffield Wednesday and finishing his career with Swindon Town. Unluckily twice breaking a leg there despite a loan spell with Shrewsbury and a brief stint with non league neighbours Nuneaton Town he couldn’t overcome the effects of this injury and he hung up his boots in 1992.
