Members News: Stuart Sees Super Sky Blues Bash Blackburn!
The Association’s ‘special guest’ last night at the CBS Arena, former Sky Blue defender and CCFPA member Stuart Giddings, saw the Sky Blues run out 3-0 winners in their Championship game with Blackburn Rovers. The high flying Rovers, hitherto undefeated in the league and managed by another ex CCFC player (and Association member) John Eustace, were made to look surprisingly poor.
Mark Robins men produced a vastly more positive performance than they provided in last Saturday’s defeat at Leeds United. They rarely looked like relinquishing their 1-0 half-time lead which was the product of a firm header from Jake Bidwell finishing off an excellent Jack Rudoni cross. Despite the visitors shading possession the high press from the Sky Blues made the Rovers defence (with CCFPA member popular ex Sky Blue Dom Hyam) look shaky and their midfield flow and forwards’ thrust was made to look disjointed.
Rovers popular former Sky Blue central defender Kyle McFadzean (a third CCFPA member with their gaffer and Dom) was probably left very frustrated on the bench as Haji Wright doubled the Sky Blues lead early in the second half and then Brandon Thomas-Asante put the game beyond doubt later in the game. Stuart saw the Sky Blues climb the table with an assured performance gee’ed up by a positive, supportive 24,500 CBS crowd.
A regular visitor to the CBS Arena for Sky Blues home games Stuart is well practised in performing our ‘special’s role as he toured the supporters lounges in the main stand before kick-off entertaining fans in chats with club host and fellow CCFPA member, ex CCFC defender Brian ‘Harry’ Roberts and current CCFC squad member, giant ‘keeper, Cian Tyler (above right).
Post match too he was well versed in ‘taking on’ CCFPA Chairman Billy Bell in front of happy supporters on stage in the G-Casino’s Lady Gs Lounge. As usual the evening was properly completed with Billy and Stuart leading the Sky Blue audience in a lusty rendition of the club anthem, the Sky Blue Song! Thanks Stuart for being a smashing ‘special’ last night. Likely see you again next Saturday as an ‘ordinary’ fan when the Sky Blues take on Sheffield Wednesday at the CBS Arena in their last game before the international break. To remind you our member and former England international Carlton Palmer will be our ‘special’ for this game!
