Dennis Churms RIP (08/05/1931-22/09/2024) – Jim Brown’s Obit On This Site Now
The Association recently heard the sad news that our member Dennis Churms, hitherto CCFC’s oldest former player and our oldest member died aged 93 at the end of last month, just over a week ago! CCFPA’s recent former chairman Jim Brown has been in touch with the family of Dennis to send our condolences.
Briefly, Dennis first played for home town club (Rotherham United) from 1950 joining CCFC in June 1956. Dennis netted twice in his ten CCFC first team games, scoring on his debut, but was used mainly as a reserve before moving to Exeter City in March 1957 and subsequently Gillingham (c/s 1958) ending his career as a ‘legend’ with Folkestone (where he settled) playing until age 35! We offer our sincere condolences to the family and friends of our former ‘Bantam’.
For those CCFC fans who wish to pay their respects to Dennis in person his funeral will take place on 11th October at Hawkinge Crematorium, near Folkestone at 11.30 am.
Dennis joined CCFPA in 2021 but unfortunately never made it back to watch his old team at the CBS Arena. Now Jim has published an extensive appreciation/ obituary of the life and playing days of Dennis which forms a major part of his latest historical blog-post ‘Jim Brown’s Journal‘ which can always be found via the link below:-
